Ricky fife
Ricky Fife joined the red meat sector in his teens as a packer in a processing plant, progressing through roles in boning, as a sawman and as a supervisor. Today, he is based at Silver Fern Farms’ head office heading its business-wide Māori development framework, Te Ara Huri.
During a 20-year journey in the sector, Ricky says he has seen a significant shift in culture and many people progress from the plant front line to more senior roles.

Mark Dass
Engineer Mark Dass and his family were keen to move from Auckland to the Hawke’s Bay and a role with Hawke’s Bay Protein provided the ideal opportunity. That was four years ago and Mark says joining the company as a maintenance engineer at its rendering plant at Awatoto near Napier was a great career decision.

Atua recently completed an apprenticeship programme through Alliance Group’s Levin plant and says she never expected to enjoy working in the red meat sector, but having given it a go, she liked it so much that she didn’t want to leave.
